Before getting started on any kind of diet, you usually think of foods that’ll up your nutrition and can help you achieve your fitness goals. You plan on stocking up on veggies, fruits, and other healthy foods that can likely help you cut weight. However, not all of these foods that claim to be healthy are real and true. I mean, some of these foods are higher in calories than you thought. They just promote weight gain and worse, can ruin your diet plan.
So to help you out, I’ve created a list down below of some of the foods that you need to avoid. Though they’re relatively healthy, unfortunately, they’re no good in your diet plan. So check them out and let me know what you think!
Whole-Wheat Bread
Don’t be deceived by the whole wheat label. Most of these commercially prepared whole-wheat bread contains almost the same amount of calories as the white bread. So be sure to check the label before getting them. If you found “reduced calories” in the content, avoid them since they have more added sugar and fructose to make up for the flavor lost.
Salad Dressing
While it can be easy and convenient to get some store-bought dressings, these condiments are really high in calories. They’re usually made from mayonnaise that has a ton of calories. Instead, why not make your own low carb vinaigrette and add flavor to your salad. They’ll taste amazing and are super easy to whip up in minutes.
Rice Crackers
Though they sound lighter, the calorie content they have are actually higher. They’re made of rice grain which are loaded with calories. And compared to any ordinary crackers, rice crackers have a lot of calories per serving. So ditch them on your healthy diet and get snacks that’ll fill you with nutrients and not just empty calories.
Nuts
Just like the above tips, nuts are healthy but high in calories. An ounce of macadamia nuts, for example, has 201 calories which are no good in any diet plan. And while they’re high in fiber and low in sugar, be careful when eating and adding them to different recipes since they give you three times the amount of calorie intake.
Dark Chocolate
Love its sweetness but hate its calories. Since it’s made with cacao, it contains 70-85% of fat which can quickly add to your calorie count. So snap off a one-inch square to enjoy each night after dinner and avoid excessive sweets.
Dried Fruit
Dried fruits are considered as calorically dense food, meaning you can consume a lot of calories by simply eating a small amount. Also, they contain a lot of sugar which can up your weight gain. So think twice before adding them to your energy balls or trail mix since they can double your calorie intake.
Margarine
Often called a healthier version of butter, margarine isn’t exactly low in calories. Though it’s lower than 100-calorie-per-pat, just one tablespoon of margarine still has 45 calories, so don’t go crazy with it.
Popcorn
Just because its made from whole corn kernels, popcorn isn’t that healthy. Especially the kind you get at the movies have added butter and salt that comes with it making it unhealthy and high in calories. So as an alternative, make your own at home and sneak it into the theater.
Chia Seeds
One of the best superfoods that’s becoming popular these days, chia seeds should be consumed moderately. A single tablespoon of chia seeds contains 70 calories, meaning you can easily add an extra 200 calories to that cereal bowl or smoothie without even realizing it.
Coconut Milk
Maybe good at speeding up your metabolism and boosting weight loss, coconut milk is not calorie free. In fact, one cup of coconut milk has a hefty 552 calories and a whopping 57 grams of fat. So look for a low-calorie alternative.
With so many foods that claim to be healthy, it can be overwhelming to choose and get what’s real and true. And thankfully with this cheat list, you can take an advantage and save yourself from making mistakes. After all, skipping them on your diet plan will help achieve your fitness goal. So be sure to avoid these foods and properly take care of your health. Let me know what you think!
